Banora Point Sewer Rising Main Replacement
A new sewer rising main beneath two residential streets in Banora Point, built with the sewer running and the street trees kept.
Because a pumped sewer main has no gravity fallback, the old rising main under Bimbadeen Avenue and Summit Drive had to keep carrying sewage while its replacement went in beside it. We built and ran a temporary bypass as a working sewer for the whole job. The new main sits on the eastern side of the street, clear of front gardens that extend up to 3 metres into the road reserve.
Council had listed every tree on the alignment, including a Norfolk Island Pine, Poincianas and a Phoenix Palm, and chose underboring to protect the ones staying. That split the trench into short runs between bores, with a live cast iron water main to protect along the way. The trees were still standing when the job finished, and residents got their driveways, kerbs and turf back.
