Boama Park Pedestrian Bridge Renewal, Rothwell
A single span replacement footbridge in Boama Park, Rothwell, carrying walkers and cyclists over a tidal drain.
Council's bridge inspector found the bottom chords of the old truss footbridge in Boama Park badly deteriorated, and temporary props went in straight away to keep the crossing open. The replacement is a single span bridge on the original alignment, at the original level and the original 2.5 m width, with bike safe balustrade 1.4 m high. It crosses an open drain that rises and falls with the tide and runs with overland flow in storms.
The new bridge had to sit within half a metre of the old footprint and keep the same underside level, over a drain where the 100 year flood passes about 200 mm above the deck. We designed and built it in six months, between September 2025 and March 2026, and the props are gone.
