Park users cross the creek at Cowrie Parade on a 2.5 metre wide deck, with bicycle safe barrier along the bridge and its approaches and rock scour protection below the weir and trash rack overflow. City of Moreton Bay asked that the design “should include no timber components and be corrosion resistant as part of the design solution”. We designed and built it between October 2021 and June 2022.

The creek flooded while the job was under way and left silt piled upstream and downstream of the new structure. A weir and trash rack site is built to catch material in a flood, and desilting the waterway was part of the works, so the bridge opened with the channel clear. The span sits on fibre composite pultrusions with ModWood decking, and the parts that meet floodwater have no organic material in them.
