Eprapah Creek Pedestrian Bridge, Boardwalk and Pathways
A 35 metre pedestrian bridge, boardwalk and pathways across the Eprapah Creek corridor, linking Thornlands and Victoria Point residents on foot.
Eprapah Creek runs between Thornlands and Victoria Point through vegetated koala habitat, and the community on one side had no way to walk to the other. The crossing is a hybrid: steel girders carry the span and composite fibre forms the deck and the boardwalk, the parts that sit in the wet. About 1,100 square metres of new path, much of it 2.5 metre wide accessible path, carries people on into the wider network.
Most of the engineering went into the corridor's dispersive clay. These soils lose their structure in fresh water: a batter that stands on the day it is trimmed can tunnel after heavy rain. Unsuitable material was removed, imported fill was placed and NATA tested, and the finished earthworks were checked in a certified global stability analysis. Clearing ran with an arborist and a licensed wildlife spotter catcher on site, and the corridor was replanted afterwards.
