The Froggys Beach boardwalk was closed, with erosion undermining its footings on a rock slope that has no vehicle access. Council needed to choose between making the existing structure safe enough to reopen and replacing it with an accessible composite fibre boardwalk with handrails both sides. We prepared a methodology and program of works for each path, built on Council's engineering report and what the site allows.

Our assessment traced the erosion to a stormwater outlet discharging onto the slope beneath the structure. We recommended extending the outlet above ground to a designed headwall on brackets anchored into the rock, carrying the water past the eroding ground under either option. Gabion stabilisation was assessed and held in reserve, since the rock would have to be carried in on foot.
