Private Vehicle Bridge, Tamborine

The bridge over the creek at this Tamborine property is the only way in and out, and the old structure had failed, taking its abutments and the creek bed either side with it. The replacement is a composite fibre bridge on gabion abutments, designed for 18.5 tonne vehicles, with chip sealed approaches tied into the existing road levels.

Removing the old bridge safely came first. A failed structure cannot be worked from, and it could not be allowed to drop into the creek, because the banks either side were the ground the new bridge would stand on. Temporary propping took the load off the failed members and held everything stable while it was taken apart and removed. The creek bed was then regraded, protected against scour and reinstated to its original profile.
