About 20 metres of the old footbridge and boardwalk at Matthew Hawthorne Reserve in Albany Creek needed to stay elevated. City of Moreton Bay's brief kept bridge only there: a 2 metre wide composite fibre bridge, with concrete footpath at grade for the rest, raised where needed for flood immunity. Walkers use the same route, and Council has far less elevated structure to inspect.

The crossing floods, so the handrails fold. Under flood flow the rails lie flat and let debris pass, and afterwards a two person crew lifts them back into place, which is practical because the composite assembly is light. The bridge runs between significant trees, and their root and protection zones set where footings and access could go. The abutments and batters are protected against scour in peak flows.
