Park Bridge and Boardwalk Renewals, Gold Coast
Seven composite fibre bridges and boardwalks across Gold Coast reserves, carrying walkers and cyclists on the paths they already used.
City of Gold Coast had five park path structures at the end of their service lives, spread across five reserves between Oxenford and Tallebudgera. We replaced all five between March and August 2021, each on its old alignment and matched to existing path levels, from a 4.8 metre crossing at Marlay Park, Robina to a 42 metre boardwalk at Schuster Park. Two boardwalks at Hinterland Regional Park, Mudgeeraba, make up the seven.
Two of the bridges sat on live services. At The Village Park, Oxenford, the old bridge carried a potable water line to homes downstream, so removal and reinstatement ran as one continuous operation with the cutover finished the same day, keeping the outage under 24 hours. At Varsity Lakes Wetlands an in service gravity sewer main runs beneath the crossing. The foundations and the construction sequence were planned around it, and it stayed in service throughout.
