Toorbul Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade
An upgrade to the wastewater treatment plant serving the Toorbul Caravan Park on the Pumicestone Passage foreshore.
In wet weather, inflow reached the lift pump station at Toorbul with nowhere to go, and with no remote monitoring any problem had to be found on site. The upgrade added 45 kilolitres of above ground storage to buffer the peaks, a pit that keeps grease and oil out of the pump station, a flow meter and a plant wide control system. The plant now reports its own condition to Council and raises its own alarms.
All of it was built inside a caravan park that stayed open, on acid sulfate soils at the water's edge. Temporary toilet and sullage facilities went in first. The existing lift station and plant kept running while the new works were built beside them and cut in, and the control system was fully tested before it took over a live plant.
