The water and fire services to Toowong Bus Depot used to pass through the neighbouring Energex substation before reaching the depot's risers. Council wanted both on its own land. They now come in from Miskin Street through new underground mains, with a metering, backflow and valve assembly sized for future connections.

Buses ran from the depot the whole time, and its fire service had to stay live. The new mains were laid, pressure tested and brought up to the risers while the old supply kept feeding the depot. The changeover came down to one short, planned connection. The route through the operating yard was surveyed and adjusted around the services already in the ground. The new valve pit holds three capped valves ready for the next connection, allowing the service to be extended later without digging across a live yard.
