Kedron Brook Bikeway, Diggers Drive Deck Renewal
A new deck on the Kedron Brook Bikeway crossing of Shaw Road Creek at Diggers Drive, a daily commuter route.
The deck came up in halves. One side of the Shaw Road Creek crossing carried riders while the other was stripped back, fitted with new joists and decking, sealed and given an anti slip surface, then the sequence swapped. People ride the Kedron Brook Bikeway to work and home again, emergency services use it as an access corridor, and it stayed open every day of the job in February 2017.
The deck and joists were at the end of their life while the structure under them was sound, so Brisbane City Council renewed the riding surface only. Closing a commuter bikeway sends riders onto the roads it exists to keep them off. Working in halves doubled the setups and put a working edge beside cyclists for the whole job. Traffic controllers stayed on site whenever the width dropped below 2.2 metres.
