Cannery Creek Footbridges
Two foot and bike bridges reconnecting the shared path across the new Cannery Creek wetlands at Banyo and Northgate.
Footings and both bridges had to go in within two weeks of site works starting, on a live utilities corridor where every ground penetration, down to a survey peg, needed a Permit to Excavate first. The crossings reconnect the Cannery Creek shared path for walkers and cyclists after the Virginia Branch Sewer Augmentation built treatment wetlands and sedimentation basins across it.
We designed both bridges: a 10.9 metre creek crossing and a 7 metre crossing that also takes a light service vehicle. The composite superstructures arrived as prefabricated modules, and each was lifted into place as soon as its footings were ready. That kept the number of excavations small and known in advance, and every permit could be written and approved ahead of the crew.
