Miawela Street Park Bridge Replacement
A composite fibre shared path bridge over Perrin Creek, carrying walkers, riders and prams from Perrin Drive into Miawela Street Park.
The timber footbridge into Miawela Street Park went in with the estate in the early 1990s. Brisbane City Council wanted its replacement to last a century on a flood prone creek, and named the new crossing in its Flood Resilience Action Plan as an example of building back better after the February 2022 floods. It is 3.1 metres between handrails, with relieving slabs running it level into the shared path.
Council set the 100 year design life as a hard number, to be met through materials and detailing with no repainting cycle to fund. We designed and built the bridge in composite fibre to meet it. The light superstructure also passes less flood and debris load into the foundations, and the abutments carry scour protection, because on a creek like this the ground under the abutment is what goes first.
