Redland Footbridge Replacements, Capalaba to Cleveland

Four Redland park and sportsground footbridges, from Capalaba to Cleveland, replaced in one three week campaign.

Redland Footbridge Replacements, Capalaba to Cleveland
12.8 mLongest span
2.5 tFlown over trees

We ran the replacement of four Redland footbridges as one continuous campaign in June and July 2019, at Capalaba Regional Park, Helen Street in Thorneside, William Taylor Sportsground and Zeigenfasz Park in Cleveland. Helen Street and William Taylor ran in parallel, with concrete curing at one while the crew worked the other, so all four were done in three weeks and each reopened within days of its demolition.

Zeigenfasz Park was the hardest. The old bridge was cut out in one metre sections by a small excavator working on the deck and backing along it, with dust extraction capturing debris over the waterway. With a mature tree line blocking any route in for the 12.8 metre replacement, it went over the top. At 2.5 tonnes with its deck, the span was flown in over the trees in a single pick from a crane standing well back.
