Currumbin Bikeway Bridge Headstock Remediation
Fire damage repairs to the three span bikeway bridge in Len Wort Park, Currumbin, a link in the Gold Coast bikeway network.
A fire under the Len Wort Park bikeway bridge damaged one headstock and the piles holding it up. Demolishing the substructure would have meant losing the whole 45 metre crossing over damage confined to a single support. City of Gold Coast kept the bridge and had the damaged element replaced in place, over the creek.
We jacked spans 1 and 2 to take the load off the damaged headstock, removed it, and fitted a new composite fibre headstock under the same spans. The crew set the grout filled section without heavy lifting, then bolted and grouted it into position, keeping hot works off a structure that had already been through a fire. The piles were wrapped in FRP, the beams repaired, and a water truck load test with surveyed deflections proved the finished bridge.
