Fourth Avenue Beach Platform Renewal, North Burleigh

The platform at Fourth Avenue sits in a stand of protected Pandanus on the North Burleigh dune. People stop at the top to look at the surf, then walk down to the sand. The replacement is the first FRP and Accoya hybrid structure to be built. Composite fibre carries the substructure and handrail posts, and Accoya forms all of the decking, handrails and balustrades.

We are experienced Accoya installers, and the same timber is on our Second and Sixth Avenue platforms along the beach at Burleigh. Access set the method here. Pandanus roots are shallow and spread wide. There was no room for large plant, no overhead clearance under the canopy and no access track through the stand. The crew carried the FRP frame in and placed it without machinery, and the Pandanus came through intact.
