Second and Sixth Avenue Viewing Platforms, Burleigh
Viewing platforms with stairs at Second and Sixth Avenues, Burleigh, keeping two busy beach accesses open during light rail construction.
Both platforms were built at once, beside a live light rail construction corridor, on two of the busiest beach accesses on the Gold Coast. Stage 3 of the light rail through Burleigh changed how people reach the sand, and City of Gold Coast added these structures to keep access working. Building them in parallel cut the time each access was disrupted, and both were complete within four months.
Neither site had room to spare. Pedestrians walked past fenced work zones, deliveries came one truck at a time with spotters on every lift, and laydown sat where Council's tree management specification allowed. The foundation system kept concrete pumps and large cranes off both sites. The framing is composite fibre under Accoya decking and handrail, with composite fibre handrail posts that hold their shape in salt spray and full sun.
