Beachgoers heading down to Rainbow Bay from the road opposite the surf club use a stair that looks and feels like the timber one it replaced. The treads and landings are hardwood Merbau with high contrast FRP nosings, the substructure is fibre composite, and the original aluminium handrails were refurbished and reinstated on new FRP posts.

City of Gold Coast wanted a stair it could remove. The structure is built as free standing modules with certified lifting lugs, so ahead of a cyclone or a future seawall upgrade Council can lift it out with a crane, store it and put it back. The crane layout plans used to install it are the same ones that will retrieve it. Every stainless fixing is isolated from the aluminium handrail with nylon washers and bushes, which stops galvanic corrosion in the salt air.
