Mater Private Hospital Redland Chiller Plinth Extension

The crane lift was booked, and everything else had to fit around it. Johnson Controls was changing out a chiller at Mater Private Hospital Redland, and the new unit fitted neither the existing plinth nor the roof opening. We extended the plinth so the new chiller had somewhere to land, and opened the roof over the plant space to get it in.

The plinth extension was formed, poured and cured before the lift. Purlins and bird mesh came out only as far as the unit needed, and went straight back once the chiller was set, with the flashings made good behind them. On an operating hospital that sequence keeps the building weathertight and keeps the building work off the mechanical program.
