Near Mt Lee, the Main Range Walk to the summit of Kosciuszko ran straight through Windswept Feldmark, a critically endangered alpine plant community that walkers were slowly trampling out. Walkers cross 1.74 km of raised steel mesh, and the plants grow underneath it in the light that comes through the deck.

Every component was flown in by helicopter, above 2,000 metres, in gusts up to 154 km/h. Each pier footprint was held to about the size of a dinner plate, letting the walkway thread between individual plants marked out on the ground beforehand.
