Footbridge into National Park, Newcastle West
A prefabricated composite footbridge over a stormwater channel into National Park, Newcastle West, replacing a timber bridge and concrete ramp.
National Park in Newcastle West is reached across a stormwater channel, and for the people who live around it the footbridge is the way in. The old timber bridge and its concrete ramp have been replaced with a prefabricated composite structure from Wagners CFT on new abutments, with new approach slabs, a cycle barrier handrail at one end and kerb at the other. We delivered all of the site works.
We had 29 days from start to finish, and the bridge arrived ten days after we started. The old bridge had to be out and the abutments excavated, poured and cured before the truck pulled in. The whole site sequence was planned backwards from that delivery date. Park users kept their access behind security fencing and detours, vehicles crossed the grounds on condition the turf came through undamaged, and it did.
