Tweed Hinterland Landslip Repairs

Design and construction of slope stabilisation at eight cyclone damaged landslip sites on rural roads in the Tweed hinterland.

Eight landslips on three roads, each needing its own repair. Tropical Cyclone Debbie took the downhill side off narrow mountain roads across the Tweed hinterland in March 2017, leaving single lanes on ground that had already moved once. Those eight lengths of road now carry traffic on stabilisation designed for each slip.

Each site failed differently, so each got a different answer: piled retaining walls at some, soil nailing at Cudgera Creek, rock fill and Durawall structures elsewhere, and new drainage where the slip had taken the pipes with it. The works ran under the emergency works exemption. Ecological checks confirmed each scope stayed inside it and revegetation matched the species at each site. Each road carried local traffic under single lane control while its repair was built on the downhill edge.
