Bucasia Esplanade Shared Pathway Boardwalks
Two elevated boardwalks on the Bucasia Esplanade shared pathway north of Mackay, used year round by walkers, cyclists and beachgoers.
The Bucasia Esplanade shared path runs behind the beach north of Mackay. Between Williams Avenue and Urarii Crescent it crosses low lying ground, and two elevated boardwalks now carry walkers, cyclists and beach traffic over it. One is a 2.5 metre pedestrian and cycle deck; the other is 3.5 metres wide and built to take vehicles as well.
The alignment sits behind a dune with an onshore wind, where composite dust from cutting would blow straight into the sand. Every cut on site was made inside a wind proof enclosure that caught the shavings. Each drilled hole got an anti crush block and every cut fibre end was sealed, on a structure of composite fibre and recycled plastic held together with stainless fixings.
