Harbour Road Shared Path Boardwalks and Bridge, Mackay
Three boardwalks and a 24 metre truss bridge carrying a Mackay shared path along Harbour Road and Ron Searle Drive.
The shared path near the Mackay harbour runs continuously from Vines Creek Bridge through to Ron Searle Drive, over low lying ground where a concrete path could not be founded. The longest boardwalk, on Harbour Road, runs about 110 metres, and a 24 metre composite truss bridge on Ron Searle Drive was landed complete with its handrails. We built the structures for head contractor Shadforth.
Soft, brackish ground changes from one position to the next: a foundation can reach design depth cleanly while the next meets hard material well above it. Every foundation position was surveyed onto a register recording its top and toe levels, natural surface and embedment, and the positions the engineer nominated were tested. Mackay Regional Council holds a documented record of what sits under every metre of the path.
