Cod Street to Norman Point Shared Boardwalk
An elevated composite shared boardwalk along the Esplanade at Tin Can Bay, from Cod Street to Norman Point.
Pedestrians and cyclists at Tin Can Bay used to walk and ride in the road reserve along the Esplanade between Cod Street and Norman Point. A continuous elevated shared boardwalk takes them off the road, with composite stairs and landings leading down to the foreshore.
Length drove the design. Tin Can Bay is a tidal estuary with salt air, humidity and marine borers, and any maintenance task repeats across hundreds of metres of deck. Every part that could deteriorate was designed out: composite fibre structure, FRP mini mesh deck, 316 stainless steel at every connection, and every cut and drilled end sealed. The deck stands on composite posts, leaving the foreshore beneath it largely undisturbed.
