Maroochy Wetlands Crab Viewing Platform
A renewed crab viewing platform and wider connecting paths over the mangroves at Maroochy Wetlands Sanctuary, Bli Bli.
At Maroochy Wetlands Sanctuary in Bli Bli, school groups, families and birdwatchers walk out over the mangroves, and the crab viewing platform is where they stop to watch what lives in the mud. The platform and its connecting paths are renewed and widened to a minimum accessible standard, on a composite fibre structure with hardwood lean rails and an aluminium seat. Marine borers have nothing to attack.
Council's scope allowed no plant or machinery on site. Intertidal mud on one side and a protected sanctuary on the other left no hardstand, no barge access and no room for a track. The platform was built from within its own footprint, working off the existing boardwalk and each new section as it advanced, with every component light enough for the crew to carry in and lift by hand. Visits to the sanctuary carried on as usual during the work.
