Carrara Floodplain Pedestrian Bridge

Residents near the Carrara Floodplain Reserve had worn a track across a swale drain as a shortcut between Alabaster Drive and Plateau Crescent, and asked the City of Gold Coast to make it a proper crossing. Their shortcut is a certified composite fibre bridge with a concrete path connection at each end, in charcoal with grey mesh decking and stainless handrails.

The swale still carries water, and more of it in storms. The abutments sit in established ground clear of the flow path, with the deck set high enough to allow for increased flow in a weather event. The bridge was built and inspected in the factory before delivery, leaving the work in the drain to earthworks, abutments and installation.
