Collins Street Low Level Boardwalk, Redland Bay
Walkers on a short, busy stretch of the Redland Bay foreshore at Collins Street have a firm, even 20 metre boardwalk.
Collins Street runs right along the Redland Bay foreshore, and the path beside it sits close enough to the ground and the tide to stay damp most of the time. The low level boardwalk gives walkers a firm, even surface along this heavily used link on the bay front, 2.5 metres wide over six equal spans.
Every structural member is the same composite fibre section. One 125 mm square hollow section does the work of pile, bearer and joist, with mesh decking over and stainless steel at every connection. A short structure with this many connections per metre depends on its ends, and each cut and drilled end was sealed and the exposed member ends capped as the frame went together.
