Indigiscapes Fairy Wren Boardwalk Replacement
A 76 metre composite boardwalk carrying visitors through the bushland reserve at Redland City Council's IndigiScapes environmental centre.
Visitors are walking the Fairy Wren boardwalk at IndigiScapes again. The old structure had been condemned and the route through the reserve closed. The new 76 metre boardwalk follows the original alignment on a composite fibre frame with mesh decking, 2.1 metres wide. It was finished four days inside Council's deadline.
It had to go in under a registered flying fox roost, without removing any vegetation, on the same footprint and footing positions as the old one. There was no clearing for plant and no widening for access. Every composite member was walked along the alignment, bringing the structure in through intact habitat, on a program coordinated with the Council officers who monitor the colony. The old footings were cut down and left in place, keeping nearby roots undisturbed.
