Minjerribah Coastal Walk, Point Lookout
Platforms, a staircase and seating on the Point Lookout headland trail above Frenchman's Beach, replacing the last of the old Frenchman's Stairs.
Point Lookout has no bridge to the mainland. Every worker, tool and load of material for Stage 2 of the Minjerribah Coastal Walk crossed the bay on a booked ferry or barge, and every piece of the old Frenchman's Stairs went back the same way. Stage 2 links Snapper Street to the Gorge Walk Trailhead, the stretch of headland visitors come to the island to walk, with new platforms, a staircase and seats along the Mooloomba Road link.
Because the work sat inside the Queensland Heritage listed Point Lookout Foreshore, access and laydown were fixed in advance and held to. Materials came ashore to one central laydown and our crew moved them along the escarpment to each work front. Around 150 metres of timber stairs, roughly 90 cubic metres, was cut down, carried off the slope and shipped off the island, and the foreshore came through intact.
