Riedel Park Boardwalk and Fishing Platform
A low boardwalk, fishing platform and composite handrail at Riedel Park, taking anglers off an eroding riverbank so the bank can hold.
Anglers at Riedel Park used to reach the water by scrambling down a steep, eroding riverbank. They walk out along a low boardwalk to a proper fishing platform, a safe and defined place to fish, and the bank behind them is no longer their path to the water. A composite fibre handrail runs along the boardwalk: 29 metres of Wagners sections made in Toowoomba, fixed with 36 grade 316 stainless steel brackets by a two carpenter crew in a single day.
That bank has been planted with 3,200 native tube stock, behind rock armouring placed from a barge using GPS machine control. Working from the water meant no machinery had to sit on the bank being repaired. With the foot traffic off it, the bank has a chance to hold.
