Pimpama River Floodplain Trail, Concept Design
Concept design for a shared path linking Reedmans Road and Mirambeena Drive across the Pimpama River floodplain on the Gold Coast.
City of Gold Coast asked for 305 metres of elevated composite fibre trail at 2.5 metres wide, a 35 metre length at 2 metres wide on kickstands, and concrete path either side at three different widths. Together they make one walking route from Reedmans Road to Mirambeena Drive across the Pimpama River floodplain. We prepared the concept design that fits those pieces together.
Transition and grade shaped the concept. The path has to rise from concrete on grade onto the elevated trail, cross the floodplain and come back down, while working around the driveway to an existing pump station. A two rail and grab rail barrier is needed wherever the deck sits more than a metre off the ground, so the ground profile sets where the barrier changes along a floodplain that is far from level.
