Pimpama Sports Hub Boardwalks
Two accessible composite fibre boardwalks carrying people across the drainage corridor between the Pimpama sports fields and Heritage Park.
A wheelchair user can travel from Heritage Park down to the Pimpama sports fields unassisted. Two boardwalks cross the low drainage corridor between them, both built as Class 1 accessible walking tracks, the classification that allows no steps. Wagners Composite Fibre Technologies supplied the composite structures, and we built both on a live sports precinct construction site.
Boardwalk 2 drops just over 2.2 metres from top to bottom. With no steps allowed, all of that fall is spent on ramped runs at 1:20 or flatter with level landings between them, and small errors carried forward at each landing add up over the length. Every headstock and bearer was set against the survey so the last run arrives at the right level in the right place. Where the deck stands high, scaffold went in so the crew fixed the handrail brackets from a proper working platform.
