Terry and Carol Moore Park Accessible Boardwalk, Nerang
An accessible composite fibre boardwalk ramp across the waterway in Terry and Carol Moore Park, Nerang, joining the park's two halves.
One in sixteen is the steepest this ramp gets. Council set that limit with a plain reason: "1:14 is too steep for people to use independently". The park's new path network used to stop at the waterway, and for anyone in a wheelchair or pushing a pram the two sides of the park were separate places. The ramp runs flush into the path at both ends, with 1500 mm clear between double handrails.
An old concrete weir on the alignment had to come out first. A weir holds water, and water holds fauna, so a qualified fauna spotter cleared each stage before it began. The FRP composite deck boards sit flush to within 1 mm of each other, because a step of a few millimetres is enough to catch a small front castor.
