Leviathan Park Path Structure Renewals, Mudgeeraba
A boardwalk and new stairs carrying a path across a creek line and up a steep bank in Leviathan Park, Mudgeeraba.
The creek crossing in Leviathan Park floods often, and Council's hydraulic modelling said the replacement had to behave in a flood the way the old one did. A timber path structure over the creek and concrete stairs up the steep bank behind it were both replaced. Walkers use a composite fibre boardwalk at a gentler grade and new stairs with extended landings and tactiles top and bottom.
So the boardwalk was designed to go under. Infill panels catch debris in a flood, and the handrail is open, letting water and debris pass through. The design lengthened the boardwalk from 16.2 to about 17.9 metres so its foundations landed clear of the high bank, and composite fibre carries the extra span with little added weight. New stairs were poured over the old ones to limit excavation on the bank.
