Doug Jennings Park Boardwalk
A 23.5 metre boardwalk in Doug Jennings Park at the tip of The Spit, Main Beach, used by fishers and families.
Doug Jennings Park sits at the northern end of The Spit, with the Seaway on one side and the Broadwater on the other. Fishers walk through it to the wall and families spend the day on the grass, all in salt aerosol, blown sand and full Gold Coast sun. The boardwalk gives them a 2.2 metre clear path through the park.
We carried the design, footings, structure, kick rails to both sides and certification of the lot for the head contractor. The frame and decking are Wagners composite fibre, made in Queensland, and every connection is grade 316 stainless steel. The composite member has no coating to break down around a bolt hole, which means fixing and section are both built for air a few hundred metres from open ocean. Upkeep comes down to inspection and cleaning.
