Finch Hatton Mountain Bike Trail Bridges
Certified single span composite fibre bridges carrying the Finch Hatton mountain bike trails over creeks and gullies in the Pioneer Valley rainforest.
None of the crossings on the Finch Hatton network has a road to it. Each is reached along a trail corridor about a metre wide, cut through steep, wet rainforest west of Mackay. There was no crane, no concrete truck and no laydown area. The bridges are what turn the separate trail segments into one continuous ride.
Everything was designed to be carried. The composite fibre sections are light enough to walk in by hand and bolt up with basic tools. No access track was cut to any crossing. Every material, fixing, tool and piece of plant, plus crew accommodation and meals, was on site before work started, because the nearest hardware store is a long way from the trailhead. We designed, supplied, installed and certified the bridges for World Trail from October 2023, on a compressed program.
