Lake Weyba Pedestrian Bridges
Three low composite crossings that reconnect the walking circuit through the Lake Weyba environmental reserve.
Three crossings on the walking circuit through the Lake Weyba reserve had reached the point where the circuit was about to break. Sunshine Coast Council asked for replacements that sit within a step or two of natural ground, with no handrails and in materials that suit the reserve. Walkers cross a 7 metre span, a 10 metre span and a 22 metre multi span boardwalk with black FRP decking and hardwood kick rails.
Nothing could be excavated. Cultural heritage ruled out earthworks, and the only access was narrow light vehicle tracks through the reserve. The structures sit on footings that needed no excavation, and the composite sections travelled along the track on foot and were assembled on site. No plant worked under the tree canopy and no access road was built. Gravel aprons at each approach stop walkers wearing a scar into the reserve.
