Greenslopes Private Hospital Chiller Plinths
Two concrete plinths for a replacement chiller at Greenslopes Private Hospital, built on a Level 1 plant deck under structural strengthening.
The plinths for Chiller 5 had to go down on a suspended Level 1 slab while that slab was being strengthened around them, in an operating hospital. The pour had to fit around the strengthening works, the mechanical trades and Johnson Controls' program for the chiller installation, all running on the same deck at the same time.
The slab was being reinforced with pultruded FRP laminate strips epoxied to its surface at 500 millimetre centres, and the drawing marked an exclusion zone where no load could go until nearby works were finished. We set out, formed and steel fixed the two plinths to the strengthening drawing as well as to the plant footprint, fitted the plinth surrounds supplied by Johnson Controls, and sequenced the pour around the exclusion zone. The chiller installation held its program, part of a run of Johnson Controls jobs going back to 2018.
