Lake Orr Reserve Jetty Replacement
Lake Orr Reserve's 25 metre jetty at Varsity Lakes, rebuilt above the waterline on the piles already in the lake.
Above the waterline, the jetty at Lake Orr Reserve was due for renewal, and the piles below it were staying in the lake. City of Gold Coast replaced everything above water level: a new 25 metre composite fibre structure with ModWood Marina decking and a two tone handrail. The old access ladder was stripped, repainted and refitted, and the turf and garden beds went back around both approaches.
Keeping the piles set a firm limit on the weight above them. A hardwood deck on steel bearers would have needed the old piles tested, and usually new foundations. The composite frame weighs a fraction of the steel equivalent, and the existing piles carry it. The material also suits where a jetty deck lives, wet and dry in cycles.
