Mountain Creek Lake Viewing Platform

Residents at Mountain Creek Lake can stand out over the water again. The old timber platform stood in the lake, marine borers had worked through it and it was decommissioned. Sunshine Coast Council reconsidered the whole arrangement, and our design and construction team delivered a replacement in composite fibre, cantilevered from the bank so very little of it sits in the water.

The houses around the lake look at the platform as much as people on it look out, so sight lines and the neighbours' privacy were design criteria alongside the structure. We produced perspective images at concept stage for Council to take to the community, letting residents respond to a picture of it before anything was built. The light composite framing is what made a cantilever practical to build from the bank, and it gives borers nothing to eat.
