Yatala Fishing Platform Replacement

A replacement fishing platform built entirely in FRP on the southern bank of the Albert River at Yatala.

Anglers are back on the Albert River at Yatala. The February 2022 floods scoured the bank under the old fishing platform, cracked its edge beam and dropped one end by about 250 mm. The new platform sits generally within the old footprint, in fibre reinforced plastic from the piles up to the micro mesh deck, with scour protection underneath and upstream.

The site is inside a Queensland Rail corridor and in tidal water, with two sets of approvals governing every step. The construction method had to be accepted for the rail corridor, with QR track safety inductions for every worker, and work in the river was timed to the tides. Light FRP members meant the platform could be built with compact plant the corridor could accept. The open grating lets floodwater and debris pass through the deck, and the FRP piles have nothing to rot in the tidal zone.
