Moores Road Bridge and Boardwalk
Redland Bay walkers continue from Auster Street across tidal Weinam Creek on a footbridge designed for a Q100 flood.
Weinam Creek is tidal, and at Redland Bay it cut the end of Auster Street off from the land beyond. The walking route stopped at the creek bank. It now carries on across a 20 metre single span footbridge, with boardwalks on both sides and graded ramps on the northern approach, all in composite fibre.
The governing load was water. The crossing is designed for a Q100 flood running at 2.4 metres per second with a debris mat 1.2 metres high pressed against it, which loads the structure like a wall. The bridge arrived as one prefabricated unit with its handrails fitted and went in as a single lift, disturbing the creek bed once, inside a silt curtain already strung across the channel. Light poles on the route kept working for the length of the job.
