Casuarina Beach Access Renewals
Three rebuilt beach accesses at Casuarina on the Tweed Coast, carrying barefoot beachgoers over the frontal dune to the sand.
The built accesses along the Casuarina and Salt foreshore are how everyone gets to that beach, and each one crosses the frontal dune. Three of them were due for replacement. The new accesses are composite fibre and recycled plastic with stainless steel fixings, designed and built by our team for an open ocean foreshore.
Salt spray, wind driven sand, full UV and periodic inundation all work on these structures, and there is no easy vehicle access for repairs. The durability had to come from the material itself. Each access was closed, rebuilt and reopened inside a window Council notified to the public in advance, because a closed access sends people over the dune. One design and one material schedule, down to the fasteners, covered all three sites.
