Flood Damaged Boardwalk Renewals, Moreton Bay
Three flood damaged boardwalks and platforms across Moreton Bay, renewed in composite fibre so residents have their local walking access back.
Three structures, three reserves, four months. City of Moreton Bay's renewal program picked up a boardwalk at Stanton Reserve, Eatons Hill, a structure at Willow Glen Court Reserve and a single span boardwalk at Kensington Way, Strathpine, all damaged by floodwater. We designed and delivered all three between December 2022 and April 2023 on their original alignments, with a viewing platform and bench seat at Stanton Reserve.
Every failure started in the ground. Water had scoured the abutment at Kensington Way, washed out the slope at Stanton Reserve and undermined the structure at Willow Glen Court. A new deck needs sound ground under it, so the ground was repaired in the same works: compactable fill, a new abutment and rock armour at Kensington Way, and 50 tonnes of rock into the washout at Stanton Reserve. The new composite fibre decks sit on that repaired ground.
