Seaway Promenade Boardwalk
A boardwalk on the Seaway promenade behind Moondarewa Beach, Southport, with a deck that sheds water and sand.
The boardwalk section on the Seaway promenade was finished within two months, along with the foundations for an adjacent retaining wall. The promenade runs behind Moondarewa Beach, just inside the Gold Coast Seaway, and is one of the busiest pieces of public foreshore at Southport.
Walkers cross soft, sandy ground here, and sand arrives every day. The charcoal micro mesh deck sheds water and sand, so it stays easy to walk on. Underneath, the structure is composite fibre from the foundations up, with no coating to maintain in salt spray, full sun and a shallow water table. Every member end cut or drilled on site was sealed and capped, because an exposed fibre face is where deterioration would start.
